Dear WordPress,
I’m hoping your management is having serious discussions over the recent decision to completely change the way posts are written via forcing writers to use the block editor format. I’m sure the mountain of negative customer feedback you’re getting has by now reached the corner offices and perhaps the folks that reside there are wondering if things are as as bad as everyone is saying, or is it just shallow complaints by a few whiny folks who dislike change.
I’m here to tell you it’s that bad, I meant really, really bad. Block editor is completely user unfriendly, terrible with playing with outside fonts, doesn’t space images well and makes cutting and pasting quotes from other sources a difficult and frustrating process. It’s just an overall mess of a program that makes posting exhausting, emotionally draining and just all around no fun. I’ve certainly stopped posting less because of it and I can’t be the only one.
Any chance at all you’ll switch back to classic as the default? Medium is looking better and better every day.
Signed,
Whiny Person Who Dislikes Change
I’m with you it is horrible. I have use it on one of my sites but I am still using the classic editor on the other 3. It is much better hands down.

You have the option to use classic?

Yes, when I use https://yourblogname.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php at the top there is a button for posts and “Add New”. To the right there is a drop down box that allows you to choose the “Block Editor” or the “Classic Editor”. I choose the Classic.
Sorry I can show you a screenshot. If you want to email me at michael.w.wilson@outlook.com I can send a screenshot to you.

Oh thanks Michael! I know what you mean as I’ve tried that and yes it still gives you the classic format. I do wish they would just put that back as the default though as it’s easier to manage posts this way.

Excellent, Tricia!
You know, I haven’t figured out why WordPress, with all the money they make from webhosting, can’t seem to work out a deal to get a decent editing utility for us blog-o-pathetic posters.
Since I can’t stand the wacky word editing tools this little space on the web-o-sphere provides, I’ve resorted to typing up my documents outside of WordPress and then pasting them into the classic editor. But even that has it’s weak points.

I know irfty, I feel the same way. Even before block edit, the editing features were pretty poor. Now they are almost unusable.

Block Edit is…. So very, very ‘pathetique’

I welcome change when it constitutes an improvement over the status quo, but the block editor hardly qualifies as an improvement. I will never understand the impulse some people have to fix things that aren’t broken.

Me neither! Gives them some sort of purpose I suppose.

I see that Blogger has done the same thing — imposed a new interface on its hapless users which they neither asked for nor desired, and apparently they all hate it as much as WP users hate the block editor. I have friends on Blogger who are tearing their hair out over it.

When I first began blogging, my daughter–already an experienced WordPress blogger–suggested I compose my post in Word, then copy and paste it when I am satisfied with it. I’ve been doing that for years, and so far the new system has not messed up anything, so far as I can tell. J.

That’s interestingt ha you say that because when I use the block editor I I just can’t seem to make it work with cutting and pasting from word as it doesn’t recognize the paragraphs or it spaces out some of them and clumps others together.
Surely it’s me just taking the time to learn something new but that would be too much work! lol.

I wonder why that happens to you. My copy and paste seems to leave the paragraph breaks where I put them. J.
