They Won’t Stop Until We Tell Them To

In light of the CDC’s absolute face plant yesterday in announcing new guidelines for vaccinated folks to mask up and blue state governors threatening Coronavirus restrictions redux over the delta scariant, I thought I’d reblog this post from January. The Brostradamus in the video below was sadly spot on. Do you get it yet?

“The mask is about compliance, next they’re gonna tell you, you have to contact trace, then they’re gonna tell you, you have to take the vaccine and guess what kids, once you take your vaccine, they’re gonna tell you sorry the vaccine isn’t as effective as we thought it was gonna be so now you’re still gonna have to wear your mask, still gotta get contact traced, still have all the restrictions and social distancing and still take the vaccine.  And what did you get out of all of this

I don’t know who this guy is, but he completely nails it in this video clip from last spring on the charade of coronavirus restrictions, the destruction of small businesses and turning life as we know it upside down.

While he infers that the end game here is a master/slave society where us compliant little sheep are ruled by elite technocrats, I just can’t give our current crop of hapless pro lockdown politicians that much credit, at least here in the U.S.  They are just too dumb to be such masterminds of evil.

Don’t get me wrong, many are without a doubt exploiting the pandemic for their own benefit, but I think most of really have no clue what to do as far as combating it so they enact endless and senseless dictates that give the illusion of doing something and then run around with their hair on fire when this has 0 effect, blaming and shaming their citizens for behaving like human beings and doing bizarre things like spending time with other people.

Take pro lockdown Governor extraordinaire, Gavin Newsom, of California where I live.  We have been in some sort of hard shut down since last march, with even outdoor dining banned in most counties and schools, gyms, nail & hair salons still shut down.  Mask mandates too have been in place for several months and yet despite all this California has some of the worst Covid #’s in the country.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is covid-california.jpg

Here’s a little secret that’s not so secret really because deep down everyone knows this.

“They’re isn’t much that can be done to stop the spread of a highly communicable, airborne, respiratory virus.”

Oh you may slow things down a little, maybe, but in the end the virus is gonna do what viruses do, which is infect as many people as possible until herd immunity kicks in, either naturally or in combination with a vaccine. There is nothing a governor, mayor, city council person or even president can do to protect you other than provide truthful stats on transmission methods, death rates and demographics of who it affects most seriously so you can decide on the proper precautions best for yourself and family.

In fact, I would argue the more the government tries to help you, the worse things get and nowhere is this more apparent than with the never ending ill conceived lockdowns and forced distancing policies.

While it’s questionable whether lockdowns have done any sort of good at all towards squelching the virus, we do know the devastating consequences they have brought. Sky rocketing poverty, mental health woes in children, major suicide and addiction issues, and increased in non-Covid related mortality rates to list just a few.

The worst in my view is the societal effects from the constant fear mongering and shaming.  It’s a form of psychological abuse really and has  always been part of politics, but many politicians have taken it to an art form during the pandemic. Combine this with mandated work closures, forced isolation of others, restricted gatherings and the breakdown of interpersonal communications through anti-science mask mandates and this will break society.  In many cases it already has.

As I’ve said in previous posts,“I believe the extended coronavirus lockdowns to be the single biggest public policy mistake made in our lifetime, if not ever, whose negative effects will be with us for years to come and in many ways we haven’t yet realized.”

We have a severe crisis of courage within our political class in that instead of telling us the truth about this virus and leading the way in fearlessly facing it, they cower and hide behind nonsensical mandates and shutdowns, pretending that this will somehow eradicate it.

What will people do when they realize it’s all been for nothing? I was hoping by now that more would have caught on and be willing to just ignore the mandates and get on with life.  Many of us in California are doing just that to the extent we can, but so many others here are crippled by fear, clinging to the restrictions like a life preserver and angrily lashing out at anyone pointing out their gaping holes of logic.

Maybe folks will finally come around after the vaccines are administered and cases still rise and politicians double down on restrictions.  More likely that will usher a mass descent in to madness and chaos as the public realizes the shiny coin of vaccine that was supposed to open the door to normalcy is not the panacea it’s being made out to be.

Look, the virus is a nasty bug, no question but it affects mainly very old and/or very frail people most seriously. For most of us we are looking at mild to moderate symptoms (if any at all) with an overall estimated survival rate is 99.5 percent, according to the CDC,  Yes, there are always outlier cases which are tragic, but this is true of the flu too and the numbers just don’t justify a complete re-ordering of society

The fact of the matter is many of us will get the virus and most will end up just fine.  The best we can do is keep things as normal as possible while directing resources and brainpower towards protecting the vulnerable.   As Donald Henderson, the man credited with eradicating smallpox once said,

“Experience has shown that communities faced with epidemics or other adverse events respond best and with the least anxiety when the normal social functioning of community is least disrupted.”

We must learn to do normal life along with the coronavirus, there is just no other way.  We will get there eventually either with or without a crushed economy and broken society.  I choose the latter.

Not sure I understand. The vaccine works. The people that are hospitalized and dying/dead have not been vaccinated. Or.. is that all government conspiracy, secret counts and handshakes to make money or take control of our brains?

I don’t understand either Doug as we’ve been told since January that if you just take your shots everything can get back to normal. Now the CDC says the delta viral load is being found at very high levels in the vaxxed group, which means they not only get it but spread it in large #’s because many of them remain symptom free and so don’t change their lifestyle. I personally think the CDC freak out over this is nonsense fear mongering, but it’s triggering new mask mandates and restrictions from blue state governors who just can’t help themselves.

On a more darker note, Israel and Iceland are reporting much larger cases of hospitalizations and deaths among the vaxxed vs unvaxxed, as did Great Britain during their Delta surge.

It appears the vaccine efficacy as dropped to 39% for elderly and/or immunocompromised (as per Israel’s data) and talk of antibody dependent enhancement is making the rounds.

The fact of the matter is government and public health officials vastly overstated the efficacy of these vaccines, making people believe they were the unicorns that would lead us out of the pandemic and that we just all had to get the jab. The truth of the matter is yes, they are very helpful for the small demographic of folks that truly need them, but this virus is endemic, it will always be with us. As more and more of us get it and recover (both vaxxed and unvaxxed), it will become less and less of a problem.

Oh, “the unvaccinated are filling up hospitals and dying” narrative is an entirely new blog post I will have to do to address that part of your comment. The spoiler alert is they don’t test vaccinated people unless very ill and when they do it’s at a much lower cycle threshold which vastly skews the results.

        * I find it entirely reasonable to accept that this pandemic from day one caught humanity with it’s proverbial pants down, hence “we” are all learning things as we go along and as variants rise to the surface to change the response matrix … and this completely includes the health organizations around the world. This means the confusion regarding masks, vaccines, etc.
        * “We” also have no history of a pandemic of this magnitude to have even prepared for this kind of thing, to take into consideration the broad response of who takes control, how should control be taken, who communicates, there’s a politics to all this, there’s a social reaction to consider.. the list seems endless when considering preparedness. While the science was a miracle to develop the vaccines so quickly…. there was absolutely no thought given to human nature.. and of course, trying to work a crisis of this size inside a democracy. I don’t like it.. but I give it its due as one of the many shortcomings in this whole affair. Secret agendas and conspiracies didn’t screw all this up.
        * I accept the possibility that because this pandemic reacted so quickly that all these supposed mercenary people came to life to think of ways to make money, all the while trying to dodge this thing themselves… is/was not all that prevalent. Have opportunists arisen over the last year? Of course.. heck, the price of protective wear went up. Was it all due to demand or profiteering? I dunno. Do you? Is “big pharma” taking us all to the cleaners? I dunno. Do you?
        * As for fraudulent or skewed “body counts” as they arrive or depart a hospital… and that this is some national conspiracy to send everyone into mask-wearing panics… seems a bit much to me when images across our TV screens and the stories of the dead and dying across age brackets imply otherwise. Now.. you might like to say to that, I’m a fool for listening to the media cause the media is all biased.. yada, yada. I might then ask, what are YOU listening to that feeds your opinion.. and do you filter it at all or just accept it?

I’m not trying to dis you here. I am trying to suggest that none of us knows a lot.. about any of this.. yet we all manage our various opinions gathered by a myriad of sources. You’ve not liked anything about mask wearing since the first say of all this and personally I think you’ve fit that bias into your own conclusion. Conversely, I’ve worn the mask in public even after the vaccine.. and I openly predicted that this thing would hit us again and it did. But I am claiming no psychic powers or some grand insight whoopee thing. I just had a feel that the public was pushing the dump-the-mask thing before the vaccine set hold. Here we are again… and to your consistent “blue state” quips.. people are hospitalized and dying in greater numbers in all “your” red states…. especially that whacked De Santis who is literally killing Florida..

I don’t think you’re a fool Doug, well, not all the time. ;). The point of the post however was to point out that the goalposts are always changing and that many government and public health people are either dumb as dirt or actively lying to us.

First it was 2 weeks to flatten the curve and figure out what we are dealing with. We did that and thankfully it turned out the infected fatality rate was much lower than we feared, more like a harsh flu in Faucci’s own words and we knew the targeted demographic of the virus was very old and/or very sick people. We also knew from several studies on masks and influenza like illnesses that they just don’t work against aerosolized viral particles, they in fact make things worse by atomizing them, not to mention their unhealthy physical and psychological effects.

There was a lot that we did already know but for some reason tossed all that out the window and plenty that we learned from other countries but didn’t follow, like that keeping kids in schools was the best thing for them. So no, I don’t give a pass to those that have been and are continuing to make horribly policy choices, ones that will affect us for years to come.

You need to really dig in to the information yourself Doug and understand what dying with Covid vs of Covid means, what terms like absolute risk vs relative risk are to vaccine efficacy, what the IFR is for all age groups. When I started doing this it didn’t take me long to realize how absolutely nuts the collective response to this pandemic has been and how awful it’s been for human thriving and society as a whole.

Just my two cents for what it’s worth.

Now that’s was what I was searching for. That’s all my opinion is worth.. and many times not even that much. My point is that we all seem to form our ideas and conclusions based on what little we know and not from how much we know. You opted to do some research and that’s to your credit as most of us seldom engage to that degree. I think you have some background in the med field which might have inspired you there. Although I will ask this.. did the research you did… was it motivated by the need to prove you right or prove “them” wrong?

It’s amazing how many article written in 2020 turned out to be right in their assessments and predictions. We did what we were told (didn’t have much choice) soothed with the carrot of – do this and you will get back to normal, but the normal never returned and the goal posts kept shifting. It was a power grab in small increments.
But when are the deluded going to recognise they’ve been conned? I fear never. It looks like a bad epidemic of confirmation bias, in another context used to be called battered wife syndrome. Or maybe gambling addiction. When people over-invest in an expected outcome which does not materialise, especially when they incurred huge, painful losses, it seems the mental pain of recognising an error and cutting their losses becomes a barrier too great to surmount. Not surprisingly they respond with huge distress at evidence showing they are wrong, or others point out they have made a mistake.
Now we have mass political exploitation of our human weakness. Mass psychological abuse from the state. And there are plenty of historical and contemporary precedents.
People wake up in time. But often too late.
I guess the only thing worse than staying sane while the people around you go mad, would be joining the madness.

That is some hard truth right there con. Mass delusion and cognitive dissonance is playing a huge role in this and in my opinion is the reason for the nastiness against those of us that are unvaxxed. It makes no sense logically to be fearful of getting Covid if you believe isn’t he vaccines, yet the fear has taken over their brains and thus the irrational hatred. Horrible events throughout history all started this way.

What a lovely question! I have often thought this myself. As a kid books were my escapism. They didn’t make me insane, they kept me sane.

We all use sanity – mental health saving – escape routes. Parents taking a night out from the kids. A night at the pub after a bad day at work. Going for a run when you’re about to explode at your significant other. All coping mechanisms, with the end result of dealing with destructive reality.

But the best way to deal with destructive reality is to identify the problem and solve it. Self-medication is a less desirable back-up or last resort.

But, book nerds survive and function. The functional alcoholic (perhaps driven to drink by work, spouse or children) is able to continue social functioning.

Our design gives us a lot of leaway – but what it doesn’t do is alter reality. If our escape route ignores reality we can find ourselves in a situation of real life threatening danger.

Perhaps you are aware of the military tactic of scaring people out of a safe situation so that they flee into a place where they become vulnerable?

One way of doing this is proclaiming a situation is dangerous, when it isn’t while saying another situation is safe when it isn’t.

We are a herd species which means most people are followers, which means collectively we are vulnerable to being deliberately mis-led by our rulers.

If it was possible to use dreams to trump reality, I would be first in the queue.

Humans have a lot of frailties but each one nature has ingrained into us as a factor to our overall survival as a species. Simply put, we all have some impetus, given any situation, to either lead, follow, or get outta the way. We are a situational species and our greatest asset is also the one that’s the most pain in the ass.. we have infinite variety. I firmly believe that a common factor to our current dilemmas are issues of faith… or lack thereof… and I am not talking about religious faith, although that has a place in all this.
Faith itself, as in how much faith, what we chose to have faith in, how we have faith, is all determined through some level of communication from which our faith is gained, denied, or betrayed. We can’t communicate these days. Our “freedoms and open society” becomes the centerpiece of our struggle. We fought for the independence to achieve it on our own, we defend it (even when it doesn’t require being defended), we are always striving to attain it (even though we have it), we constantly point to each other for abusing it, and you’d think no one was happy living within it. Is it the system at fault or is this an “each other” thing? I would venture that the interest you had in books, the escapism to another kind of reality, was your search to believe in something.. to have faith in something during a time of reality despair. Right now we are engrossed in a national despair… and the scary part is that we’ve lost faith in each other.

I recently read Erikson’s book “Surrounded by Idiots”. He suggested most people could be sorted into one of 4 personality types. Roughly, Dominant, Social-entertainer, Social-supportive, and non-social knowledge seeker. (My definitions). How these groups as individuals interact with each other is how our relationships and society works or fails to work.
People will be happy or not according to whether they can fulfil their innate programming. Being what you are successfully within society is what gives fulfilment.
As to my reading, in Erikson’s category I am a knowledge seeker, with low interest in people. Nerds, especially child-nerds often find people as people, and especially other children unbearably frustrating.

The Covid restrictions and fear porn are psychologically damaging for all human beings who do not have the means to escape the proscriptions. They damage people as individuals and society as a whole. The most pro-social among us, perhaps socially the most valuable people are most damaged. I would guess that is where most of the Lockdown induced suicides especially among the young have come from.
Take the story of Covid out of the picture and what has been done is clear violence.
At a guess the despair will be greatest among those who believed the lies. Those who don’t are very angry perceiving the gratuitous damage and concluding with some justification that we are all being attacked by the elites.
The suffering is real. A good rule is when you know what your enemy wants you to do, do the opposite. They want us to fight each other. Don’t. Try to be patient. Those who believed the lies are genuinely frightened and confused. They want to separate us from each other. Our families, our loved ones, our friends. Resist this and support each other and go out of our way for the vulnerable, particularly children and the young. They want to destroy livelihoods by destroying small businesses. Boycott the big businesses and support your local shops etc.
I am lucky to be living in an area where there has been huge rejection of the govt propaganda, and people are kind to each other. I know this is not true everywhere and some people are having a very hard time.

Still, even after listening to the video, Tricia sounds puzzled. What are the masterminds who lead us trying to accomplish? It is hard to believe they actually know what they are doing.

Are the masterminds insane? Yes. Tyrannical busybodies have always been insane, but that doesn’t make them any less dangerous. Also, let’s not forget that the masterminds trying to work us up into a hysteria over the Delta variant are Marxist tyrannical busybodies. Marxists have an existing strategy and a playbook. Marxist are always trying to do two things: pit us against each other and make us irrationally afraid. Marxists always preach envy and fear of the “enemy of the people.”

Marxism is supposedly all about escaping the boot of the oppressor class and achieving Utopia. In Marx’s original iteration the oppressors were the rich and the oppressed were the poor. In today’s American Marxism, the oppressor is the straight, Christian, white male. Hence, we have:
    – rich whites against poor everyone else
    – whites against colored
    – Bible believing Christians against everyone else
    – straight white males against females and the gender confused
    – unvaccinated white Trump supporters against the vaccinated
    – ignorant white Trump supporters against the educated
    – greedy white Trump supporters against the generous
    – bigoted white Trump supporters against undocumented immigrants
    – the law abiding against criminals/convicts
    – those who despise the misuse of marijuana and illegal drugs against those addicted to alcohol, drugs and porn
    – those who don’t trust the so-called mainstream news media against those who do
    – and so forth.

As strange as it sounds, the battles over vaccination and mask mandates, social distancing, and lockdowns are just one small part of the much larger propaganda/power politics war that Corporate Liberals/Liberal Democrats are conducting against our nation. Keep in mind that last summer’s race riots were about race, not COVID-19, and the Jan 6 storming of the Capitol Building was about a stolen election.

Corporate Liberals/Liberal Democrats really don’t care how they divide us. They just want us so confused and divided we cannot unite to stop them from overturning our Constitution and enslaving us.

What can we do? We can read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. We can go back to historical documents like the Federalist Papers and read them. We can read what the framers of the Constitution read. We can also read the Bible. We need to understand the moral character of the people who founded this nation. What did they believe that we have forgotten?

Unless we figure out how our nation was designed to work and why the founders designed it that way, we cannot make our government work properly. How should we start? We can learn by doing. We can participate in the political process, especially at the local level. We can begin by making certain our children receive a proper education by straightening our school boards. We can work to make certain our children receive the education we should have had, they education we now must seek for ourselves.

Thanks Tom for the re blog. Your comment is so spot on too! When I originally wrote that post last January I was more of the mind that most of the political boobs making these horrible policy decisions meant well but were just ignorant and governing out of their own fear of losing voters so they needed to seem like they were “doing something.”

I don’t believe that anymore. The Covid response has morphed in to a giant power grab by the usual suspects who vastly want to remake this country. What I don’t understand is how getting a shot in every living, breathing creature’s arm plays in to this. I suspect it has to do with losing a control group of unvaccinated people and that comparisons then can’t be made when it turns out the vaccines don’t live up to their hype.

Anyway, excellent advice on how to move forward in combatting this craziness.

Tricia, thank you for resharing this video. Objective evidence indicates that the man on the street stating his opinion into the microphone shows more scientific accuracy than most of the government spokespersons who keep telling us to “trust the science,” by which they mean their version of what is happening. So true Salvageable. I think it was Bill Buckley who said he’d rather have any random person picked out of the phone book to be in government than the boobs we keep electing. He was right.

It never was about the vax trish/ but you know that too.

What these idiots don’t want to face- is the fact that they who have said ‘no thank you’ just possibly may have done their own research and reached opposite conclusions-

You got vaxxed? Good for you. You didn’t? Good for you. And btw, I thought health info is private.

But these gestapo thugs need a hobby.

It never was CS, you’re right. It shouldn’t be anybody else’s business whether a person is vaxxed or not. Amazing to think that our country will have a civil war over this. I guess that’s what they wanted too.

Doug, please turn off your TV variant. Red states like where I live only talk about the poisoned comatose vaxxers who are dying. None of us are sick at all!!

Just for kicks and grins, AH… let’s assume I “turn off my TV variant”… where, pray tell, would you have me go so I can be just as “informed” as you?

You don’t even need to go anywhere weird. The NYT, Bloomberg and CNN have been running stories all day about the delta scariant affecting vaxxed people. Perhaps it will be on your tv this evening.

Ugh… the reporting.. to be as accurate as I am watching it on my “TV variant”, is saying that the viral load on vaxed people can be as large as non-vaxed.. but the vaxed people are not going to end up getting it to be hospitalized. The vaxed people WILL equally transmit the virus from that viral load in spite of not getting the severity of the disease. That’s all over the news. Now.. is it all according to Tucker? :/

That’s what they are saying and it’s probably true but deaths and hospitalizations are still flat so cdc and media panic is unwarranted. Par for the course though for this pandemic.

Here’s a thought, Tricia… if the media is broadly reporting all these maps of the country with all these increases in hospitalization and deaths, sad stories of the dead and dying of all ages, doctors and hospital workers across the land lamenting the pain, suffering of dying patients, the various shut-downs over the last year, mask wearing (mandated or not), vaccine taking promotional efforts, and CDC announcements and warnings across the land.. if all that over the last year to now is just fluff, exaggeration, fraud science, big pharma wanting more money, politicians wanting more power. nothing more than getting the flu on a bad day…. you and the rest can proudly sit back and thump your chests that you knew all along…! Do you even comprehend the effect this would have on the country? If you are even remotely “correct” do you realize that there’s nothing left of the democracy… not to mention the country in general? You will likely respond that this is the alarm you are trying to give to the country to avoid all this. No.. this hasn’t been your approach at all, nor anyone else in here with your similar opinion. You want to save the country from bad people doing evil deeds? Seems all you are doing is suggesting the grand conspiracies of fraud, secret agendas, blah, blah, simply to blame that “other”.
I’m not saying you are not serious in your opinion on all this . I am questioning if the idea is mostly to find blame and point a political finger rather than trying to save the country.. in which case “finding blame” is not a priority.

Great post. As I’ve said from the start, being a “frontline worker” in the grocery store in a blue state and seeing first hand what has happened to my co-workers, we should be falling over dead by now if it was as horrible as they say. Not a one of us tested positive. I wear my mask at work (as a decorative chin strap – LOL) because we’re supposed to. But no one harasses me or questions me. Every time there is a new “mandate” i slip deeper into depression. No one in the media (except one that I’ve seen) ever mentions what people who can’t get the vax due to medical reasons are supposed to do with these proposals of vaccine passports, etc. And though I appreciate politicians like Rand Paul going after Fauci, they have the evidence…DO SOMETHING TO STOP THE MADNESS! We want to see action, enough grand-standing! The CDC has way over-stepped it’s bounds. I saw today on the news that the Supreme Court actually ruled against the CDC saying such a thing when it comes to extending eviction notices. So, there may be some hope. Something a bit comical occurred to me the other day: what if Fauci is just a giant germaphobe who’s unleashed his paranoia on all of us? Take the vaccine or don’t take it…I don’t care. But don’t force, guilt, or shame anyone for their choices. You don’t know their medical histories, nor do you have a right to know them. This will go down as the biggest sham in history…of course that will be re-written too. Wasn’t it Ronald Reagan that said “The none most terrifying words in the English language are ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help?'”

Thanks Lisa. And I am SO frustrated as well that nothing is being done by our so called representatives to spot this madness! I guess we have to realize that nobody is really going to get us out of this mess, it’s up to the people to revolt. OR move to Florida, lol. 😉
