Head in the sand, blissfully unaware as the world goes by. Here’s why.
For days now it’s been unusually hot in my little neck of paradise here in coastal San Diego. It’s been humid too and the air stagnant, which means my normally breezy and comfortable little beach house becomes a sweltering tinderbox starting at about 2pm daily. Seriously, I could probably make good money renting it out as a sauna.
The heat frying my brains, on top of a busy work schedule and a nasty bout of food poisoning has left my motivation for blogging just dying on the vine. Instead of scouring the daily news and picking off any one its multiple absurdities for a meaty blog post, I’ve chosen to ignore it all together and pretend all is good with the world.
And can I tell ya something? It’s been pretty nice. I’ve been way more relaxed and my mornings have been fabulously stress free as I forgo catching the latest headlines to pray more, read Oprah like self-improvement stuff, or just get a jump start on work.
I know I can’t stay this way forever and I’ll be back at it again soon enough. Just not quite yet. I’m enjoying my blissful ignorance and plus it’s rather cool here beneath the wet sand.
Enjoy! Well deserved I’m sure.
We miss you though!
Blessings, grace and peace.

Thanks Michael! I still linger about here and there but have not been able to catch up with reading/commenting on my favorite blogs, yours of course being one of them.
Blessings to you too!

sounds grand Tricia–minus the food poisoning! Blissfull ignorance is sometimes so very much needed—especially in these days and time!
I’ve always wanted to see San Diego—I’ll wait until the weather even outs 🙂
And to live at the beach…well that in itself means life if good…
We’ve explored moving to the Gulf—but the houses are off the charts…too much of a good thing has created its own monster!
Feel better soon and enjoy your R & R 🙂

Yes, minus the food poisoning please! I enjoy the bliss, but am trying to find a balance between keeping informed while not getting caught up in all the outrage that seems to be at mark 10, 24/7. It never stops unfortunately.
And please do let me know if you ever come this way. Imagine all the world problems we could solve if we actually discussed them person? Lol.

life would be so much better, that’s for certain—I will let you know…I’ve been to Oregon and Washington…but Cali has never been on Gregory’s list…San Diego however has been on mine 🙂

Enjoy. I’d really like to see San Diego again. Seeing the Zoo was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. We also ate a really good Steak and a place called Hunter Steak And, or course Sea World was on the agenda. A house on the beach…woo hoo!

Well not exactly on the beach but I still call it a beach house. 😉 Let me know if you ever come back this way Wally! I’m sure the heat we’re experiencing now is nothing for you.

You are probably right about the heat. The other day it was only 92 and people were commenting about the nice cool day LOL.

First things first, Tricia,….if you think you’re going to get sympathy from me for living in San Diego, I have some Florida swamp land to sell you at a great price!
OK, that’s out of the way. I totally understand what you are saying about the hiatus from daily news. Since the advent of 24/7 news (thanks CNN), we are inundated with any and every story happening around the world. And the old adage again proves true, i.e. blood leads. Anything that is gruesome or perverted gets headlines while good news is relegated to the final 30 seconds, if reported at all.
If you know anything about me after following each other this long, it’s that I am very pragmatic. The world has always been a cesspool of evil and greed, and always will be, but we were insulated from so much of it due to the “antiquated” reporting conduits before the digital age. Now it’s all out there for everyone to see at the click of a mouse.
I guess the point I’m making is that is is probably a good idea for any of us to take sabbaticals from social media. It a part of our nature to connect with each other and learn about other people’s lives, but I doubt it was ever intended to be at the frenetic pace that networks and cable shows have foisted upon us.
Having said this, I would hate to lose your perspective on events entirely. I look forward to your take on politics and think you have a clear vision of the way most things should be viewed. I guess if we get right down to it, another Greek adage applies….”all things in moderation.”

Lol Al! I was waiting for the southern state peanut gallery to chirp up about my heat intolerance wimpiness! I bet you have a/c though while out here we supposedly are not supposed to need it. Yeah right! 😉
I agree with your thoughts on how the 24/7 news cycle has contributed so much to the permanent outrage switch our nation seems to be on. I can’t even watch the major networks or CNN or even FOX. It’s just all such a pretend show and most of the anchors haven’t a clue what they’re talking about. Except Chris Wallace, I like him a lot and he’s fair.
You’re right though, everything in moderation. We have to stay informed and we have to speak out/write about things that trouble us. A free and Democratic society cannot survive if it’s members take a bow due to apathy and cynicism.
How is the recuperating coming along?

I’m doing very well, thanks, Tricia. Back to driving and creating general mayhem wherever I go.
P.S. I forgot about the A/C thing out there. I’ll give you a pass this one time!

Good, so glad your back to the general mayhem! Don’t forget to fix those door jambs too. 😉 Appreciate the pass…:)

Sounds to me like you need a vacation in some cooler climate with plenty of naps and drinks with umbrellas Tricia.
We here in Texas have been blessed with cooler weather this summer. Not too many days over 105 F and rain this week. Not too many people complaining about the weather since the economy is booming and taxes are low!

Naps and umbrella drinks sound great Dennis! I’m such wimp, it’s really pathetic. I’d probably die from one summer of TX heat.
Glad it’s been cooler there for ya. And yes, you’re state is doing a lot of things right. Someone please alert Jerry Brown to this!

Wat to go T; drop the social stuff for a spell. But your sauna? Ouch.
Don’t feel bad though, God has been blessing us here with Noahic style rain, geezo, a family can only take so much of those miraculous droplets that seem to pile up in a hurry.

Yeah, you guys have been getting some biblical storms back there. We could sure use a few of those droplets out this way!

After a summer of taking time off to do repairs on my house, do repairs on other people’s houses, and be generally frustrated because every weekend it seems like something gets in the way of having fun, I cashed in a whole week of vacation time to ride my motorcycle and pet my cat and hang out with friends and basically do nothing productive. And yeah, I’m liking it. The electrical upgrade I’ve put off for six months can wait a little longer.

That sounds awesome Chris, good for you! 🙂 I’ll bet your cat would object to you’re saying petting him is not productive. 😉

Hi Trica, hope the weather has cooled off for you. Sometimes it’s good to just step back from all that news flying by continually… take it easy and relax… or go ride a motorcycle!

Hey Mike, nice to hear from you. Yeah, things have finally cooled down a bit my wimpiness has subsided. Motorcycle ride sounds nice!

I hear ya. Checking out from time to time on all the craziness out there is definitely needed. It’s exhausting trying to keep up with the insanity. My blogging frequency has declined some this year and it’s been kinda nice….then I start missing it and have to write!!

I know the feeling E! I want to write but my inspiration seems to have run dry. The fall
I think will be better.
Thanks for dropping by!

79 degrees F and 65 % humidity looks good. So I assume the unpleasant weather has moved out of paradise. However, that’s the view from Virginia.
Grew up on the Gulf Coast. Truly humid and warm, especially when the trade winds stopped. That was before A/C. Then we depended upon an attic fan to pull air through the house. I can still remember that summer night the electricity went out. It was a choice between the mosquitoes and staying inside a hot house.
If you have not got any, you may wish to get a few fans.
Hope you are feeling better.

Hey Tom, yeah things have cooled down a but, it’s quite pleasant now actually. I grew up in New England and the hot, humid, mosquito infested summers there were bad enough. I’m sure though the Gulf Coast in mid August was much more unpleasant.
Fans yes, to blow around the hot air, lol. It’s all good. I really shouldn’t complain but, sometimes I like too. 😉
Definitely feeling much better, thank you!
